Wittle Pix, Infant Photography, now available at Chalet Arts, Starkville, MS

My good friends and amazing supporters at Chalet Arts of Starkville, MS will now be able to provide beautiful photographs of babies at their store for parents. Owner Mark Wood, his wife Lorie, and daughter Loren, and the rest of the team at the store came up with the the "Wittle Pix" concept. Chalet Arts specializes in great quality printing and framing. Additionally, they have an exceptional photographer on staff in Hunter Hart. By combining these components together, they can provide a "photo to print to mat and frame" service at one location. Instead of having to buy a special package package of prints, Chalet Arts will be able to specifically tailor prints to the customers' satisfaction. Customers could buy print standard 5x7's, 8x10's, and other typical sized photo prints on glossy photo paper if they desired, but they could also have a multitude of other sized prints on a variety of surfaces such as canvas. Prints could be immediately produced in the shop. For folks who desire matting and framing for their photos, Chalet Arts offers a wide array of framing options depending on your taste and budget.

Everyone on the staff will play a crucial role in the process from professional photographer Hunter Hart taking the photos, to Alan Fortenberry printing images, to Saxon Wilson and Hunter matting and framing photographs. In fact, Saxon also created the whimsical Wittle Pix logo. The Woods will take orders and do everything they can to create a wonderful experience for each customer.

Starkville Art Walk, 23 June 2016, 5:30-9:30 PM

The second annual Starkville Art Walk is taking place this comingThursday, 23 June 2016 from 5:30-9:30 PM, downtown Starkville. This event is sponsored by the Starkville Area Arts Council and will be held in conjunction with the Greater Starkville Development Partnership unWine Downtown event (for more about unWine).

There will be numerous artists showing and selling their work and live music as well!

Joseph and I will be setup in the Book Mart selling prints, card, books, and original art. Last year I was set up in the Book Mart, and it was awesome. Thanks to Book Mart owner Carolyn Abadie for again hosting us. 

Last year was great fun. This year could be better as the event is tied to UnWine Starkville, an evening of carefree wine sipping at participating businesses. So! Yes! Come drink and buy stuff!

MacGown Art at Pop Up Show, Columbus, MS

Joe and Joseph MacGown with have a booth at the Arts and Krafts Inaugural Pop Up Show from May 5 to May 7 (Thursday night, 5-7 PM with opening reception and food, and Friday and Saturday, 10 AM to 5 PM) at 422 Main Street, Columbus, MS. This is in the old Purple Elephant location.

For the reception from 5-7 pm on Thursday May 5th, there will be refreshments and live music! 

There will be art and music involved. Part of the Pop Up Show overlaps with the Market Street Festival on Saturday. So, while you are at the Festival, come on in and see us and buy art! Remember we will be inside of the old Purple Elephant shop at 422 Main Street!  Our set up will in the front area of the building. Word has it that the other artists involved are very cool too! So, come on in, hang out and buy some art.

Cotton District Arts Festival 2016 - recap of our adventure

Whew! It was a long day. We unloaded our stuff at about 6 PM, then spent a while setting up our tent to be ready for the 9 AM festival start. This is only the second festival that Joseph and I have done, and we had more space to spread out at the first one (Prairie Arts Festival), so it took us a while to figure out how to pack our stuff in. Finally got it done though and I think it looked good. Unfortunately, I was so busy I did not take a picture of our setup. But, our awesome photographer/journalist friend, Sarah Dutton, took a couple for us.

The morning started off misty, but the rain stayed away, and it turned out to be a beautiful day. Lots of folks were in attendance, and we had a steady flow of people, many of whom purchased prints and cards and other stuff. We were located near the east side of the festival, and in retrospect, I would say that perhaps a central location would have been better, as many people never made it down to our end. But, despite this, it was a great day for us and we were more than busy!

I also had good luck in the juried show winning first place in the Painting/Drawing division with my large piece entitled "Board of Alderman". The folks working the juried show said it was the overwhelming crowd favorite! I don't know if that was true, but I got some very positive feedback from that piece and my other one in the juried show, "As Above, So Below."

Thanks to Starkville Area Arts for a great festival, to the Camps for their cooperation in hosting this tremendously successful event, and to my friend Mark Wood at Chalet Arts for the great quality printing and framing of our works! 

Cotton District Arts Festival on April 16, 2016

Tomorrow morning, 16 April 2016, my son Joseph and I will have a tent full of prints, postcards, original artwork, and copies of my art book for sale! Come see us. Booth 335 on East University Drive.

I will also have two pieces of art in the Juried Exhibition, which is a part of the festival. Juried show reception is at 9:30 AM in the Visual Arts Building on University Drive east of Bulldog Burgers. Come view the spectacular art in this show! This year's juror is sculptor James Davis, who does beautiful abstract metal works. It will be interesting to see what this sculptor thinks of my detailed weirdness.

Mississippi Made, Artwork for sale at 929 Coffee Shop on April 2, 2016

Yes, from 5-9 PM on Saturday, April 2, 2016 our wonderful art loving 929 Coffee shop will be hosting a variety of artists who will be selling their products. Artists are all now living in Mississippi, and the group is called "Mississippi Made." This is something that 929 has been doing off and on now for a couple of years. However, this will be the first time that my son Joseph MacGown and I will have a presence there.

Joseph and I will share a table and will have a wide selection of archival prints and postcards with our on art on them for affordable prices. Be sure to come by and talk with us, buy our art, and buy and check out the other great pieces of art by locals artists.
