Joe MacGown Surreal Art Talk at Gumtree Museum of Art was fun

I gave a roundtable type presentation about my art at the Gumtree Museum of Art this past Saturday, March 4, 2017. Thanks to everyone who came to the talk, for your wonderful questions, and for purchasing prints and books from me! If you couldn't make it to the show, it will be up until March 24, 10am-4pm, Tuesday-Fridays (Saturdays by appointment).

It was especially nice to see faculty and art students from the nearby Itawamba Community College, Mississippi State University,  and even a couple of Starkville High Students there!

Surreal Visions of Joe MacGown Exhibition opening today (Jan. 25) at 5:30 PM

My one man show "Surreal Visions of Joe MacGown" open tonight at the  Gumtree Museum of Art located on Main Street in Tupelo, Mississippi. The opening reception will be held from 5:30 to 7:00  PM tonight (January 25th).  Local Starkville duo "Two Parts Sugar" comprised of Caleb Hutson and Holley Rumbarger will perform their groovy music during the reception, wine and refreshments will be served, and about 30 trippy original pieces of my art will be on display for your viewing pleasure. 




 If you can't make the opening, the show will be up from January 25 through March 24. Gallery hours are 10 AM to 4 PM on Tuesdays through Fridays and on other days by appointment.

"Subconscious Visions of Joe MacGown" at Gumtree Museum of Art, Tupelo, MS - 25 Jan- 24 March 2017




I will be having a one man show featuring both color and black and white pieces at Gumtree Museum of Art located on Main Street in Tupelo, Mississippi from January 25 through March 24. The opening reception will be held from 5:30 to 7:30 PM on Wednesday, January 25th.  Gallery hours are 10 AM to 4 PM on Tuesdays through Fridays. 



Caleb Hutson and Holly Rebecca Rumbarger are planning some live music during the opening.

music.

Upcoming shows and stuff...

Antipodes Project

Our wonderful Antipodes collaborative drawing project is finishing its run in Washington D.C. as the show is coming down on August 29. Following that, we will work to finish up the fourth piece, and perhaps start some more, as well as look for other types of creative collaborations, and future venues for the  works.

Prairie Arts Festival - 3 Sept. 2016, West Point, MS

My son Joseph and I will have a tent full of art for sale next Saturday, 3 September 2016 at the Prairie Arts Festival, which will be held in the Sally Kate Winters Park in West Point, MS. We will have post cards, a variety of sizes of archival prints in sleeves with backing board, my two art books, and original art for sale. Come on by!

The Art for Peace Traveling Show - 28 August - 30 October, 2016

My piece entitled "Going Green" travels to the Galerie Flox in Dresden, Germany as part of the traveling group show, "Art for Peace" curated by Liba Stambollian. This show has an all star caste of artists included, and I am glad to have a piece in it. The show runs from 28 August to 20 October, 2016. Starkville Area Arts Council Abstract Show - 12 September - 7 November, 2016 

Joseph and I will both have two pieces in the upcoming Abstract show in downtown Starkville at the space in the Greater Starkville Development Partnership office at 200 Main Street. The show goes up on 12 September and runs through 7 November with the opening reception from 5:30 to 7:00 PM on Thursday, 15 September, 2016.

Group Exhibition at Studio 230 

I will several pieces in a group exhibition at Studio 230 in Cleveland, MS from 24 September through 3 December, 2016 with an opening reception slated for 1 October.  This beautiful gallery is owned by artists Cetin and Carmen Oguz. 

One Man show at the Gumtree Museum of Art in Tupelo, MS - 26 January - 11 March, 2017

I will be having a one man show at the wonderful Gumtree Museum of Art in downtown Tupelo, MS from 26 January through 11 March, 2017. Opening date has not yet been set. This will be a pretty sweet show with lots of room to exhibit my art! Thanks to director Belle Naugher for setting this up!
